Have you only gotten one or two visitors on your professional Facebook page? There’s a good chance you forgot the number one rule of web marketing: optimization. You need to use all the tools available to convert visitors into clients; on Facebook, that means finding easy and fun ways for your visitors to engage with you and with each other.

Here are three effective ways to use Facebook for legal web marketing:

  • Likes. When readers “like” your page, they will automatically receive your business’s status updates on their page. Encourage “liking” and “sharing,” especially with clients who have already met you and used your services. Your business will pop up on their personal pages, allowing your client’s friends a chance to ask about your firm.
  • Links. Links are a great way to get people talking—and also a great opportunity to direct them to your site. Most blogging software can be set to automatically share new posts on your Facebook page. If there is a hot topic in your city, offer updates or a link to a local news story and invite readers to comment on it.
  • Polls. This feature comes and goes, so you should take full advantage of it when it’s available. Ask a question, then sit back and watch your visitors weigh in. Many readers will post comments, add to the discussion, and even stop back later in the day to see if their opinion is “winning.”
