Watch Your Lawyer Advertising Language!

How many times have you seen people get frustrated when they read a piece of content and feel the author is being too wordy or using high-end vocabulary to seem smart? This is the very scenario you want to avoid when drafting your lawyer advertising content.

I know my clients don't want to sit down with the Virginia code and read through statutes to find out the applicable laws and regulations concerning their personal injury cases. They'd much rather read my article library where I take Title 8.01, Chapter 4, section 243 (the statute of limitations for VA) and tell them in plain English that they have 2 years from the date of their injury to file a personal injury claim.

They don't want to hear the wordy version of said statute as provided in the online Code of Virginia:

"
Unless otherwise provided in this section or by other statute, every action for personal injuries, whatever the theory of recovery, and every action for damages resulting from fraud, shall be brought within two years after the cause of action accrues."

Remember that in most cases, your clients are looking for an attorney to help simplify all the legal matters associated with their case. When they're reading your legal marketing materials, they want the information they need presented to them in language they understand and can relate to. Of course, if you're a business law attorney, your approach should be a bit more technical.

My article on the language of your legal marketing does a more thorough job of explaining how your lawyer advertising language should be tailored. Remember that how you say something may be just as important as the message being sent.

At Great Legal Marketing, we focus on saying NO to ineffective traditional lawyer marketing. We seek out new strategies to market to our ideal clients in ways they'll actually respond to. So, how do you get started? Get a FREE report and CD from legal marketing guru, Ben Glass.
