One of the most important things that you can do as a business owner is take full control of every aspect of your business. This doesn't mean that you need to come in at 6 a.m. and stay until 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and micromanage every detail of your law firm just to stay on top of things. That to me is a sign of failure.

Another common complaint I hear from lawyers is that they're not wild about the quality of client that they have. You know whose fault I say that is? Theirs. It is your business, your firm and your time, and you have the power to say "yes" or "no" to every potential client that inquires about your services.

If your jaw has dropped to the floor with the mere thought of turning away a potential client, I'll ask you to take an honest look at your client base and the types of cases you handle.
