Lawyer marketing is one of the most important parts of running a successful law firm. It's amazing how many lawyers handle their marketing plan (if they even have one) just like every other lawyer, yet, expect this strategy to bring in new, quality clients.

Most lawyers commit what I like to call "random acts of marketing."
This is when attorneys purchase the same Yellow Page ad as every other lawyer with the same meaningless taglines, and pictures of gavels or courthouses with their phone number and think that's what lawyer marketing should be. Those copycat ads are not standing out from the crowd and they are not going to get you the clients you need or want.

Successful lawyer marketing occurs when you stop trying to market to everyone else and market yourself as the unique and specialized lawyer that you are
. Random acts of marketing don't stop at print either. By now you've hopefully realized that every lawyer needs a website. Most attorneys just buy a website, put up the same picture of a courthouse or gavel or just their own photo and their phone number and think that's enough!

Whether you are producing a generic Yellow Page or a generic lawyer website, this random act of marketing is a huge waste of time and money that will not bring you the clientele you are looking for.

So what's the answer?

There's no magic bullet when it comes to successful lawyer marketing. There is however, a new way to approach lawyer marketing that is going to start getting you the results you need to grow your law practice into a successful business.

The first thing you need to do is stop looking at other lawyer's ads, unless you're looking for a few lessons on what not to do. Then you need to start thinking about your perfect client.
