There are constant demands when you’re trying to get your business up and running, and all of them will cost you. But while you’re probably watching where every dollar of your budget is going, you’re not nearly as protective of your time.
Attorney Ben Glass knows that the first step to making your legal marketing plan work is to protect your greatest asset: your time. In his Great Legal Marketing book, Ben recommends that attorneys be vigilant about protecting their time: what they do, whom they see, and how long they spend doing things that others could be doing for them.
Here’s just three ways that it pays to be a watch-watcher:
- No time is wasted. You should have a team in place to handle all aspects of your firm, including your law firm marketing campaign. This doesn’t mean that you’re not a part of your business. Rather, it means you should only be spending your time on things that need your attention: things that only you can do.
- Client focus. By being particular about whom you see, every client will get your full attention for the maximum amount of time. This helps the client’s case, which helps your reputation—increasing the chances that the client will refer future cases to you.
- Health and happiness. Letting your team take care of the little things will put less stress on you, giving you both free time and the ability to relax and enjoy it. When you take on only your ideal clients and give them the attention they deserve, you’re ensuring the financial stability of your family; by being fully present at home on your time away from the office, you’re ensuring their emotional stability as well.
The important thing to remember is that your time is money—and wasting it is the equivalent of throwing your wallet down the drain.
